Who is Aon Insurance?
Aon is a financial company that provides risk management, Aon insurance and reinsurance brokerage, as well as human resources and outsourcing services. Beginning in the 1980s, Aon was a result of a merge between Ryan Insurance Group and Combined International Corporation. Over the next decade, Aon expanded into the global insurance market and today employs 65,000 people in 120 countries. The current president and CEO of Aon International is Gregory C. Case.
In 2013, Aon was named by Global Finance magazine as the Best Global Insurance Broker for that year, Best Central/Eastern Europe Insurance Broker and Best Africa Insurance Broker. Aon Insurance in South Africa is a subsidiary of the Aon UK and offers insurance, risk management solutions and retirement fund administration services. The CEO of Aon South Africa is Jaco Kok. According to news posted on December 1, 2013, Aon South Africa is intended to close its local retirement fund administration division due to ongoing issues, such as issues relating to the administration of the funds, resulting in a significant loss of money over the past 3 years.
Where is Aon Insurance located?
The Aon South Africa head office is located at The Place, 1 Sandton Drive, Sandhurst. The “Place”? Yes, we were surprised as well. Luckily they didn’t name there company “The man!”.
What services does Aon Insurance offer?
As a brokerage company, Aon Insurance offers both business solutions and personal insurance. In terms of personal insurance, they offer both car insurance and home insurance.
Because they are brokers, Aon South Africa does not provide car insurance directly (If you are looking for direct car insurance options, see our full list of insurance companies). However, their goal is to work with you, the customer, to design the motor or car insurance package that best suits you, your living style and your needs. This ranges from regular motor insurance to comprehensive policies that provide additional and more complex coverage.
Other options that the brokers at Aon Insurance include are:
- Roadside assistance;
- Optional car hire;
- Vehicle insurance for executive or classic cars;
- Personal liability cover;
- Personal accident cover.
How user-friendly is the Aon Insurance website?
Although there was room for improvement, the overall impression of the Aon Insurance website was good. The website had a nice balance between the information provided and the graphics and general layout, making it easy to navigate and find the information needed. The menu options were also clearly laid out and to find, which of course is a plus for a potential customer. Additionally, the website provided a history of their company, along with links to their brochures which of course is information that could be useful if you are unsure about which company you are looking to use. On the downside, when looking specifically for car insurance, the information was somewhat lacking. We assume that this lack of information is due to the fact that they are brokers and do not provide direct insurance. Nevertheless, and like a few other insurance brokers, it would still be good to have some basic information on this, for example, they could mention which companies they work with. For the most part, Aon Insurance did an adequate job on their website.
How to file a claim with Aon Insurance?
In order to file a claim with Aon Insurance, there is a link on the far right side of their household and motor insurance page. That “report a claim link”, provides a drop down menu in which you can fill in the appropriate information and submit it electronically.
What are the customer reviews of Aon Insurance?
Over the past 12 months, Aon Insurance received only 66 reports which is really a few compared to other companies. Of those reports, 30% of the customer reports were compliments, while 70% were complaints. Although that is a high level of complaints, it is important to note the small number of overall reports. Do they have a smaller customer base? Did those who had compliments just not bother to file a report? We can’t answer these questions, but pose them as something for you to think about as a potential customer. Looking at the nature of the complaints, almost 40% of the complaints were in the “feedback/response” category. This seems to indicate they could stand to improve in their responses to customers. In Aon Insurance’s defense, they did provide a response to almost every report, with the exception of the most recent one.
Summary
The South African branch of Aon – Aon Insurance – is a subsidiary of the global Aon financial company. On a large scale, Aon has won awards for its products and services and has made a global name for itself with its worldwide reach. However, on a local level, Aon South Africa has had some financial losses recently relating to its retirement funds. As a potential customer, it is important to think about the effects of the closing of one of Aon Insurance’s divisions in South Africa – but on the other hand, this might not reflect on how the entire company is doing seeing how the company does offer many services and this is just one of them. Additionally, it is unclear how to interpret the small number of reports on hellopeter that the company received, along with a seemingly high level of complaints…
As always, we leave you with our most valuable tip: don’t forget to network with friends or coworkers and ask about the company you are thinking of using, as well as reading other useful tips on how to get cheap car insurance. And then of course, compare online car insurance quotes before making any commitments.
