Budget Insurance: Company Bio
Budget Insurance was founded in 1998 in order to offer, you guessed it, budget insurance options. Specialising mostly in short term insurance, the company offers policies with low cost premiums. Budget Insurance is a part of the large Telesure Group of companies, which includes many other South Africa insurance companies, like: First for Women, Dial Direct Insurance and Unity Insurance. Currently, the head of the Telesure group, and therefore of Budget Insurance South Africa, is T.J. Creamer.

What Services Do Budget Insurance Provide?
Although Budget Insurance focusses mainly on short term insurance, they do also offer life insurance alongside home, portable possessions, buildings, and, of course, vehicle insurance. As part of the Budget car insurance range of products they also offer specific motorcycle insurance.
Motorbike Insurance with Budget
Budget Insurance have a comprehensive motorbike insurance policy, meaning that you are covered for theft, fire, loss, damage to your bike and damage to other people’s vehicles or property. The features of a Budget motorcycle policy are:
Coverage against theft of or damage to your motorcycle (note that the Budget Insurance website does not list coverage amounts, though most insurers insure your bike for market value);
Coverage against loss of or damage to standard accessories as long as your motorbike is lost or damaged at the same time (again, the Budget Insurance website does not list which accessories are considered standard);
Covers towing and storage for your motorbike in case of accident as long as you use the Budget Insurance towline phone number;
Coverage for damage to other people’s property is up to R50,000, whilst coverage for injury to or death of another person is up to R20,000, each of these is per incident;
Optional coverage for other accessories such as GPS units (which presumably will mean higher monthly premiums);
Optional coverage for hail damage, though if your motorbike is financed this is automatically included (again, this will probably mean higher monthly premiums).
Do be aware that Budget Insurance policies become invalid in certain conditions, meaning that you won’t get a pay out should you be found to be driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving an unroadworthy vehicle, or driving with a revoked or invalid license. This is fairly standard amongst insurance companies.
How Do Customers Rate Budget Insurance?
Hellopeter, the customer review website, lists 839 reviews for Budget Insurance posted over the last year, and the results are almost fifty fifty. 424 of these reviews are positive, mostly stating that the consumer had a good customer service experience. 415 reviews were negative, with the majority of complaints being in the feedback and response category. It’s important to keep a couple of things in mind, however. First, these reviews are about all Budget Insurance services, not just motorbike insurance (though it’s unlikely that a home insurance customer will have a different experience with the company than a motorbike insurance customer, for example). Second, consumers are more likely to complain than to compliment. One important thing to note is that a Budget Insurance customer service representative has responded to all reviews, and more than fifty percent of customers reported that they were more than satisfied with the response that they received to their complaint or compliment.
How User Friendly is the Budget Insurance Website?
It was easy to find the section that we needed on the Budget Insurance website, and navigation is simple thanks to a drop down menu at the top of every page. The general overviews of the policies were easy to understand, and there are links provided for more detailed information as well. There were two small areas that we thought could be improved. Firstly, we thought there could be a little more info about which accessories are considered standard under the motorbike policy. Secondly, on each page there’s a pop up contact box that appears to ask if you would like Budget to call you. Whilst this makes contacting the company easy, the box did sometimes cover text that we were trying to read. On the whole though, insurance shopping through the Budget website was simple, even for novice customers.
Budget Insurance in a Nutshell
As part of their vehicle insurance range, Budget Insurance (a member of the Telesure Group) offers a comprehensive motorbike insurance policy. Customers seem divided on their opinions about Budget Insurance, though online customer service seems good (based on responses to reviews posted on Hellopeter). Insurance is a big decision though, since you’re going to be paying a fair amount of money here. We always recommend comparison shopping to find the best deal before coming to a final decision. If you want to make comparison shopping easy, then click on the banner above (or on the top right of our home page) and you’ll get a few free insurance quotes to get you started.
