Why you should use our services?

Insurence ‘shopping’ is usually a headache, but it took me 30 seconds to fill in a form, and within no time I received a couple of quotes, one of which was actually better than my existing insurer – so I saved time and money. Baie Dankie

First for Women

Who are First for Women?

First for Women (officially called "1st for Women") is an insurance company that responds solely to the needs of South African women. Back in 2002, several individuals took note of the research that showed a larger number of women taking out their own insurance policies. Additionally, based on research done, women are statistically involved in fewer accidents and therefore are a lower insurance risk. T.J. Creamer, L. Vermaak and  J.W. Wilken took this opportunity and created an insurance company that would more accurately cater to the specific needs of women in South Africa, primarily offering lower insurance premiums and supportive products.

First for Women is part of the Telesure Group and according to their website, a portion of the premiums collected by First for Women are donated to the First for Women Insurance Trust, whose aim is to support the empowerment of women in South Africa.

Where are they located?

First for Women Insurance Company is located at Auto & General Park, 1 Telesure Lane, Riverglen, Dainfern, 2191 – this is the same location by the way of many other companies in the Telesure Group.

What Services do they offer?

First for Women offers a variety of insurance products, all of which are specific for women. These include:

  • Car insurance
  • Home contents insurance
  • Buildings insurance
  • Business insurance
  • Personal insurance
  • Portable Possessions insurance
  • Life insurance

First for Women offers 3 choices when it comes to car insurance:

The First option is the comprehensive car insurance policy – which is just that: an all inclusive policy. It will cover you if your vehicle is stolen or broken into. Should you cause an accident, it will take care of damages to your vehicle, as well as cost of damages to other party’s property that was a result of your accident.

When signing up for the comprehensive policy, First for Women will also provide:

  • A specific towline that you can use for towing and storage of your vehicle should it be involved in an accident.
  • Medical costs up to R500 as a result of an accident.
  • If you pay for it, they will cover your car’s canopy and sound system against theft and damage.
  • Option for coverage due to hail damage.
  • For a small fee, you can increase your Third Party Liability Cover to R5 million, R10 million or R20 million.

The second choice is the 3rd party, fire and theft insurance policy. This policy covers damage to your vehicle as a result of fire and/or theft. It covers damages to a third party’s vehicle if you cause an accident. It does not, however, cover any damages to your car should you be the one to cause the accident. The above mentioned provisions remain for the 3rd party, fire and theft insurance policy with the exception of the option for hail damage coverage.

The third option that First for Women offers is a 3rd party only insurance policy, which covers damages to another’s vehicle or property should you cause an accident. It does not cover your car at all. With this option, the only provisions offered are the option to increase liability cover for a small additional fee, medical expenses up to R500 for anyone involved in an accident, and coverage of your sound system should you make this specification.

In addition to car insurance, First for Women also have policies for coverage of motorcycles, off-road vehicles, caravans/trailers and watercrafts.

How are the reviews for First for Women?

Over the past 12 months, First for Women Insurance Company received almost three times more compliments than complaints on the popular review website Hello Peter. The compliments address numerous aspects of the company, many related to their quality of customer service. For an insurance company, this is a good rating, especially seeing how most of the other companies usually have double the amount of complaints versus the amount of compliments. The three largest categories of complaints were feedback/response, repair/servicing and billing/accounts. Virtually all of the complaints were responded to by a First for Women agent which is something worth mentioning.

Summary

First for Women is an insurance company that smartly recognized both the lower insurance risk that women pose, as well as the increase in the number of women seeking insurance policies. Additionally, they took the opportunity and added additional complimentary services that suite this target audience. As such, their focus is to provide products and services specifically for women of course. They offer the gamut of insurance products with an additional set of free benefits and assistance programs to respond to the different needs of women. Also, according to the online reviews, there service is decent, if not more. So, if you are a woman seeking an insurance policy in South Africa, 1st for Women seems like a fair option to try. Of course, don’t forget to compare their prices with other insurance companies (you can do this by using our online form on the top left side).
