Frequently Asked Car Insurance Questions and Answers:
- Check on www.carinfo.co.za and on Google for any feedback and reviews about the level of service that the insurance company provides. If you see many complaints, consider using another company.
- Make sure to ask what discounts are available for different groups and categories?
- What is the procedure for filing and settling a claim?
- How much will the company pay in the event of theft or total write-off of my car?
If your car is damaged, you must contact your car insurance company straight away. It is often a good idea to take photos of the place that the accident occurred and of any damage. Also, don’t forget to write down the basic details including the time, place and parties that were involved in the accident. Don’t forget to write down the licence plate number of any other cars involved.
The insurers will usually tell you to take your car to an approved garage so that they can assess the cost of repairing the damage. Generally, if the cost of repair is more than 70% of the value of your car, your insurers will write it off.
Your car insurance premiums include personal injury cover, and damage and personal injury to third parties. These factors do not reduce with the value of your car. Also, even though the value of your car may be going down annually, the cost of spare parts and labor to repair it does not go down.
