About Kestrel
Kestrel were established in 1995, and the company is an insurance broker, rather than a traditional insurance company. All this means is that they act as middle men, matching customers to insurance policies from other companies that fit their needs, rather than offering policies of their own. Kestrel Insurance Brokers are a member of the Assupol Group, a group of companies that includes two life insurance companies: Assupol Life and Prosperity Life. Kestrel are currently headed by company chairman G.F.M. Wessels and managing director Louise Stennekamp.

Vehicle Insurance with Kestrel
Given that Kestrel are an insurance brokerage they do not offer their own policies as such. Instead they partner with eleven major South African insurers and match your client needs to a policy offered by one of their partners. Because of this we can’t tell you details of the policy that you will receive, since that will depend on which insurer Kestrel advises for you. However, we can tell you the insurance companies that Kestrel currently partner with. These companies are:
- Centriq;
- SAU;
- Santam;
- Auto and General;
- Momentum;
- Unity;
- Regent;
- New National;
- ABSA;
- Oakhurst;
- MiWay.
How Are Consumer Reviews for Kestrel Insurance Brokers?
Hellopeter, a website dedicated to consumer reviews, does not list any reports concerning Kestrel. This is maybe understandable, since Kestrel themselves won’t be giving you your insurance policy. In order to get an idea of consumer feedback, you may instead want to wait until Kestrel offer you a policy and then look at reviews of the actual insurance company that you will be using. Since presumably Kestrel will be your contact person this may not give you an idea of customer service experience, but it should allow you to get an idea of how quickly claims are fulfilled by a given insurer, for example.
How User Friendly is the Kestrel Website?
Overall, the Kestrel website left a good impression. Finding information was easy, and Kestrel simply explain how their brokerage works and who they partner with. Of course, there are no policy details, but Kestrel do give a nice overview of kinds of policies using few technical car insurance terms and definitions, so you can easily see what kind of insurance you might need. We would like to see only one small improvement. Currently the Kestrel website lists their contact forms above their policy options, meaning that we needed to scroll through the forms before getting to the information we wanted. It would be more convenient to have the options above the forms, but this is a small matter and something that’s easy to fix.
Kestrel in Conclusion
Kestrel are an insurance broker, meaning that they do not have their own policies but match customers to policies offered by other insurers. The company currently partners with eleven South African insurance companies. We found no Hellopeter reviews of Kestrel’s services, but that may not be a bad thing since Kestrel won’t be supplying your policy themselves anyway. If you’re insurance shopping then the most important thing to remember is to get as many quotes as possible from different companies. It’s only in this way that you’ll be certain of getting the best policy at the best price, which is what we’re all looking for!
