MiWay Car Insurance?
MiWay offers 3 types of car insurance: comprehensive, third party fire and theft, and third party only.
Comprehensive car insurance: This option provides the most coverage and includes coverage for theft and hijacking, damages resulting from an accident, fire and natural disasters, such as hail and floods. Coverage under this policy also includes damage to the car’s glass and any liability to a third party due to an accident.
Third Party Fire and Theft insurance: Similar to the comprehensive option, this choice provides coverage for damages due to theft, hijacking, fire, and natural disasters. It also covers you for any damage to a third party’s vehicle, as well as any individuals who are injured should you be the cause of an accident. The primary difference from the above option is that this one does not cover your vehicle against damage resulting from an accident.
Third Party Only insurance: This option is typically the cheapest and provides coverage for any damages to a third party’s car or individuals should you be the cause of an accident. You have no coverage on your vehicle, under any circumstances.
In addition to the above 3 insurance options, car hire and cover for non-standard sound systems and car accessories can be added to your policy.
MiWay provides insurance coverage for private, professional or business car use.
- Private or social purposes – This includes driving between home and your regular place of work.
- Professional use – In addition to private use, this would apply where the car is an essential part of the performance of your profession, such as lawyer, doctor.
- Business use – In addition to private use, the car forms a key part of the performance of any work or function.

How user-friendly is the MiWay website?
In reviewing MiWay’s website, it is very easy to navigate and use. Both the layout and the print are clear and simple. It is not too detailed but rather very intuitive. They provide a lot of information regarding their services and seem to go the extra length to make their website user-friendly. This is probably due to the fact that the website is a fairly new one, as is the company. This easy to use implementation is a fresh approach and one would hope that other insurance companies do the same, as most other insurance related websites are either difficult to navigate, badly designed and hard to find information on (see reviews of other insurance companies in south Africa).
MiWay Customer Reviews
Based on information obtained from hello peter, MiWay received over 5000 reports of feedback in the past 12 months (which is a lot). Out of those 5000, there was a 4.5:1 ratio of compliments to complaints, clearly showing that MiWay received significantly more compliments than complaints – something very rare in the insurance field where the situation is the opposite in most cases. . In looking at the complaints, the two largest categories are feedback/response and billing/accounts. Both of these relate to customer service complaints. Both compliments and complaints consistently received a response, although the most recent complaints have yet to be responded to. It seems that while MiWay takes a little more time in responding to the complaints, they definitely are responsive in addressing the feedback they receive and assuming all these reports are legit, they seem to be a good job with their customer service.
Summary
As a relatively new provider in the insurance field, MiWay provides a fairly wide range of financial services. While smaller and newer than some of the larger insurance providers in South Africa, MiWay has the financial backing of well-established and well-connected companies such as Santam. Perhaps this allows them more freedom and effort to focus on their identified goal of providing value-for-money products by delivering quality customer service. Both the user-friendliness of their website and their reviews on hello peter seem to reflect their focus on providing a positive customer service experience which is certainly something refreshing to see out of the many insurance company reviews that we have conducted. Nonetheless, we continue to advise that before chosing your insurance company, you obtain several online insurance quotes (which you can do right here on Carinfo.co.za) and read reviews about each company in order to learn from other’s experience.
