About Ooba
Formerly known as MortgageSA, Ooba was founded in 1999. The company was originally a home loan concern, offering mortgages and loans to prospective home buyers. They then expanded to provide insurance services as well. Insurance through Ooba is technically offered by Property Protector Financial Services, though this company is wholly owned by Ooba. Until 2013 the CEO of Ooba was company founder Saul Geffen. In June of that year, Geffen was replaced by Rhys Dyer who had until then been COO of Ooba.

Which Services Do Ooba Provide?
Ooba provide home loan services as well as insurance options. In the insurance niche they offer home loan insurance, buildings, home contents and vehicle insurance.
Ooba Vehicle Insurance
The Ooba website provides very little information about their insurance policies as a whole, though to be fair they do state that policies will vary by customer needs. That means that it’s tough for us to give you details about what to expect from an Ooba policy. Here is what we do know:
- Ooba do not offer a stand alone vehicle insurance policy, as far as we can tell you must combine your home contents and vehicle insurance policies;
- There is no indication as to forms of vehicle coverage offered on the Ooba website, though we assume that they will cater to whichever needs you have.
This is obviously not a lot of information to go on, and this could make shopping difficult for potential customers. However, since Ooba promises to match your needs to an insurance policy and to ensure that you’re neither over nor under insured, we assume that when your needs have been evaluated you will get more information about policy details.
How Are Ooba’s Customer Reviews?
Hellopeter, the customer review website, has only 36 reports about Ooba from the last twelve months. This is low number of reviews compared to other insurance companies that we’ve reviewed, who often get hundreds or even thousands of reports. 23 of these reviews were complaints, whilst the other 13 were compliments. A fair percentage of customers complained about poor customer service and lack of feedback. However, firstly these reports are about all of Ooba’s services, not just insurance, and secondly, we must remember that people are much more likely to complain than to compliment. On the whole we feel that it’s unfair to judge consumer satisfaction with Ooba based on such a low number of reviews.
How User Friendly is the Ooba Insurance Website?
The Ooba website has clear, user friendly design and navigating around the site is easy. It was simple to find the pages that we were looking for, and when we did there was a nice overview of policy options. However, there were no detailed explanations of policies given. Of course, we understand that Ooba will design a policy to meet a client’s needs, but we do feel that the website could include some examples of what kind of features you could expect to get. For example, do they offer limited liability insurance or third party or both (find out the difference on our car insurance terms and definitions page if you don’t already know!)? A few examples would make shopping a lot easier for potential customers.
Ooba in Conclusion
Ooba offer both home loans and insurance options. From their website it seems that they offer only a combined home contents and vehicle insurance policy, though we have little detailed information about policies. Ooba do promise to match your needs to a policy though, so it’s likely that features vary by customer. Due to a low number of customer reviews it seems unfair to say whether customers are satisfied or not with Ooba’s services. Of course, if you’re insurance shopping you should be getting as many quotes from as many different companies as possible. In this way you can ensure that you’re getting the right policy for the right price, which is what every insurance shopper is looking for.
