Outsurance was established by Willem Roos, Howard Aron and Rene Otto in early 1998 and has since then become one of the well known insurance companies in South Africa. Initially, the company offered car and household insurance to South African’s with the slogan of “you always get something OUT.” The Outsurance company is a member of the Rand Merchant Insurance Holdings (RMI) Group and has been approved as a financial services provider according to the Outsurance website. Subsequently, Outsurance has expanded to provide business insurance and life insurance. Outsurance has two other branches: Outsurance Namibia which is involved in the Namibian personal short-term insurance market and Outsurance’s sister company in Australia, “Youi”, which offers car and home insurance. Original founding fathers, Willem Roos and Howard Aron hold the current CEO positions in South Africa and Australia, respectively.
Outsurance states that they are committed to giving back to the community and are involved in a variety of projects, including the Pointsmen project, Staff Helping SA OUT, and Helping Hands Volunteer Program. These are all aimed at helping those in need and reinforcing the importance of caring for the less fortunate.

With its central office located in Centurion [1241 Embankment Rd, Zwartkop Ext 7, Centurion, 0157], Outsurance insurance company has smaller offices in ten major cities around South Africa. They have a combined staff of above 2500 employees which should make them more accessible to clients.

- Damage caused by fire or another act of nature
- Theft
- Hijack
- Intentional damage

Many people ask how do we submit a claiim to Outsurance. Well, that's easy – just click here
Limited Car Insurance covers theft and hijack, damage by fire, and cases where you can be held liable for damage/injury to another individual or their property. Be aware, though, that this policy does not cover cases of accidental damage to your car.
Yet another option is to purchase Liability to Other Parties, which provides coverage solely for those situations in which you could be held legally liable for damage/injury to another individual or their property.
Let’s say your car is more than five years old, not financed and valued at less than R50,000. You might think motor insurance may not be worth the money. However, Outsurance has another option called Essential Insurance, which is budgeted based on the specifics of your car. This option provides cheaper car insurance premiums than the options mentioned above.
Outsurance has yet another option called [email protected], which is aimed at encouraging safe driving. How does this program work? This is a comprehensive car insurance policy in which the premium is based on how safely you drive. It provides incentive for accruing less mileage and utilizing safe driving habits.
[email protected] has been designed for people who typically:
- drive less than 15,000 km per year;
- keep within the speed limit;
- do not drive through corners at excessive speeds;
- do not accelerate harshly;
- do not brake harshly; and
- do not often travel at night.
You might ask, so how does Outsurance know your driving habits? As part of this option, a tracking device is fitted to your car which closely monitors position, speed, and acceleration of the vehicle. This information is used to determine the premium.
Outsurance Customer Service
Outsurance has a user friendly website that clearly outlines their insurance policies, as well as information about themselves as a company.
Despite their claim to value customer service, their overall rating through hellopeter is not so stellar. There is a ratio of almost 2:1 complaints to compliments over the past 12 months. A significant number of the complaints related to feedback/response, repairs/services and other customer service related items. A number of the complaints did show a response from a company representative, perhaps highlighting the company’s concern for their clients’ satisfaction or for how the company "looks" online.
Summary
Outsurance is a widely recognized insurance company in South Africa, who provide a variety of insurance policies relating to home, business, life and car. From starting out small, they have grown and continually added to their services, as well as branched out in other areas and countries. It seems that Outsurance has set their eye on providing the most affordable comprehensive insurance policies, while also remaining committed to customer service, employee satisfaction and giving back to the community.
