If you’re looking into the safest cars in the world, then we’re here to help. With so many different models of vehicle on today’s roads, obviously some are safer than others. And with accident rates (and insurance premiums) getting higher all the time, car safety has to be an important factor when you’re thinking about getting a new vehicle. Safe cars will protect you and your family should an accident occur, and you might find that you get lower insurance premiums too, so they’re a win-win situation!
Every year the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the US releases their list of the safest vehicles on roads. With a full set of testing facilities, the Institute is equipped to test vehicles in a wide range of categories. From their test results they then compile a list of cars they consider the safest. So, whether you’re looking for a family car or luxury vehicle, here, in no particular order, are the safest cars in the world for 2015.
The 2015 Mazda 3 4-Door Hatchback
If you’re looking for a smaller vehicle, then the Mazda 3 is an excellent choice. Stylish and affordable, the 2015 Mazda 3 model scored the highest grade in each of the Insurance Institute’s categories for car safety. The perfect choice for a small family or couple, the Mazda 3 will certainly be keeping you safe on the road.
The 2015 Subaru Legacy
The 2015 Subaru Legacy is a mid size vehicle that falls under the heading of moderately priced, and it’s also extremely safe. Scoring highly in categories such as roof strength and with superior front crash prevention equipment the Subaru is a great family car as well as being one of the safest models around.
The 2015 BMW 2 Series
For those looking for a little more luxury, the BMW 2 Series is a clear choice. Scoring highly in all safety categories the BMW 2 Series is a classic luxury car, and it should come as no surprise to BMW lovers that the 2 Series model is one of the safest cars around. German engineering has always been highly regarded for creating safe vehicles, after all.
The 2015 Mercedes E Class
And if you want even more luxury, then you’re looking at another German engineered vehicle: the Mercedes E Class. Again, the Mercedes scored in the top ranks in all safety categories, including getting a superior grade for its optional front crash prevention equipment. And, of course, it looks pretty great too…
The 2015 Toyota Sienna
If you’re in the market for a minivan, then the 2015 Toyota Sienna is the only minivan that the Insurance Institute have classed a Top Safety Pick Plus for 2015 (the others are simply Top Safety Picks). Roomy and affordable, the Sienna got the top grade in four out of five safety categories. So if you’ve got a big family, then it’s got to be the Toyota Sienna.
The 2015 Honda CR-V
The 2015 Honda CR-V is the first of two top class small SUV choices rated highly by the Insurance Institute. SUVs are always a popular choice, and are generally fairly safe vehicles. But the Honda CR-V got top marks in all safety categories, as well as a superior rating for its optional front crash prevention equipment options. Not bad at all for a very affordable SUV.
The 2015 Mazda CX-5
The second small SUV option rated highly by the Insurance Institute is the Mazda CX-5. Just like the Honda, the Mazda got top marks in all safety categories. However, it did get only an advanced (rather than superior) rating for front crash prevention equipment. If you’re choosing between these two vehicles, that’s something that you might want to keep in mind.
The 2015 Toyota Highlander
If you want a larger option when it comes to SUVs, then again, the Toyota Highlander was the only large SUV to be rated a Top Safety Pick Plus by the Insurance Institute. Getting top ratings in four out of five safety categories, as well as an advanced rating for its optional front crash prevention equipment, the Toyota Highlander is the clear choice if you need a more spacious vehicle.
The 2015 Lexus NX
Finally, if you’re looking for a luxury SUV option, then the 2015 Lexus NX is a great choice. Getting top marks in all categories, the Lexus NX is stylish, speedy and safe too. So if you’ve got a little more cash to spend on your SUV, then the Lexus is your best bet.
